Actually, it was a sunny afternoon and several of us at the station were busy moving some equipment from a truck into the station house. The truck was parked on the street to the side of the station, a few yards from the intersection. The main street is one way, and we often saw accidents there, right outside our door, because a lot of people apprently are not curious why all the other cars are driving straight at them. Today was a rare occasion for us, as medics are used to arriving at car accidents minutes afterword. This time we got to see and hear the whole thing, and were almost involved.
All of a sudden, we heard a loud crash, looked up, and a full sized van was spinning wildly, headed right for us. As it spun around, a body came flying out of the side window of the van, which then spun onto the body and stopped. Brakes were screaming to the left, and we turned to see a couple of cars smack into each other head on.
my first thought was, "Wow, that was pretty cool". My second thought was, "ooo, we have to go help.". several guys ran to the van, some to the intersection, and I ran to get an ambulance, for, after all, any medic is only as good as his equipment, and the equipment is in the squad!!
I ended up taking the driver of one of the cars (a pretty lady,go figure), and others took the man frome the van, who was seriously injured, yet recovered fully. Yes, that was something you dont see everyday!!
It was a dark and non-rainy night, actually early morning when we crawled out of bed, and drove the few feet to that same intersection. A pick-up and a car had collided, pretty amazing how the only two vehicles within three blocks managed to arrive at the same place at the same time!! This seemed to be a minor fender bender, then it turned into a gender bender!! Ya gotta love it!!
I was interviewing the driver of the pickup, who was from another county. Now mind you, if you dont work in our town, you dont run around it at that time of night unless you are up to no good. If you are just passing through, you wont end up on our street. So i figured this nice, clean cut gentleman was up to no good. Wouldnt you? Things started going downhill when he refused to allow me to examine him, and refused any treatment whatsover. That was all fine with me, except i still have to fill out a no-transport paper and have him sign it. For that, i needed his personal information. Which he refused to give to me. adamently. He stated that he was the only passenger in his truck. And said i could go do something to myself that sounded pretty painful. My response to him was, ok, i will be back in a minute. I walked over to an officer i could see filling out paperwork, saw that he had the mans license, and calmly waited till he was done, and he gave it to me. I then walked back the the man, showed him that i had his license, and asked him if the information was correct. OOHH, he was pissed!! He went off, and started yelling and screaming, which got the attention on the officers, who promptly put him in cuffs and in the back of the cruiser. I filled out my paperwork, all of this within a few yards of my comfy, now cold bed, gave the license back to the officer, who signed the no-transport form for me. I then went to the squad, where i found my partner attending to someone with a slight scratch on their forehead.
I instantly knew why the man from out of county was freaking out. There sat a pretty lady, perfect makeup, nice legs, short shorts and halter top, lookin good!! That meant one thing to me. In this town, if you are looking for a prostitute, there are 3 kinds. If the person on the corner is an average to nice looking white lady, she is an undercover police officer. If the person on the corner is of any race, but looks strung out and not dressed up, there is your run of the mill, cheap and easy prostitute. If that person on the corner is really nice looking from a distance, hair styled sharp, make up on, great legs, sharp cloths and high heels, SHE is a HE.
And how do i know these things, you ask? Those people were frequent customers of ours!! Sad but true, what a society we have.
So of course this goody-two-shoes looking guy from out of town did have something to hide, as did his companion!! I laughed and laughed. Actually, just because he was a butt, i went over to the police car and told the guy we had found his passenger, and the truth of their gender. The look of horror on his then pale face was priceless!! Another great night in the hood!!
At the end it talks about the Venus Project, which is an idea for a society that doesn't rely on money. Venus Project Website

It's winter, and here in Minneapolis, that means there is a lot of staying inside. I am a big fan of music, and theater, and this city is great to catch both.
Other than creating trippy websites, how does the time pass in California?
