The Best Web Hosting Companies
These are the companies that I recommend, and have also been rated by others as the best web hosts. I know from personal experience that both these hosts are reliable, and quality hosts:
(4.8 out of 5 bear rating) Rated by 24 people.
Midphase Hosting as low as $4.95 a month. (Use coupon code GOTAPEX-ROX-BIG-DISCOUNT for three months off, and 10 domain pointers) $60 per year if you prepay 2 years, or $85 yearly - This is the company I use to host chicochicks.com, and
so far it has been great. I chose it because after looking at many
reviews they were consistenly rated very highly, usually in the top
three, and I didn't really see anybody on any sites complaining about
them. I have used this company for about 2 years, and have no
complaints about them myself. It comes with unlimited hard drive space,
unlimited monthly bandwith, cgi-bin, and 1 SQL database. I have had to
contact support a couple times, and they responded very quickly. They
have technichians to respond to emails and problems 24 hours a day. I
run a forum on chicochicks.com and I wanted a server setting changed so
that users had permission to upload large 200 megabyte attachments. I
sent midphase a support ticket from the control panel at around 11 at
night on a Sunday. They wrote me back within an hour and told me they
had just updated the settings for me. I was very impressed by that. I
didn't expect them to respond so quickly, but it made me feel very
confident in the host. I use Midphase to host ChicoChicks.com and DJDanceClub.com.
(4.9 out of 5 bear rating) Rated by 13 people.
ANHosting as low as $6.95 a month. (Use coupon code SAVINGCENTER-93818 for three months off) - $85 per year - This is the host that I have been using recently. They
are a relatively new host opened by the same parent company that owns
Midphase. They haven't been around very long, but already have a lot of
customers and good ratings. I talked to some of my friends who
have websites and they said I should look into ANHosting. ANHosting is
often rated as one of the 5 best shared hosting companies on various
hosting review sites. I just transfered Web420.com to ANHosting in
March 2009. I did a lot of research on hosts, and I though this was a
very good host at a good price. It comes with 500 GB of hard drive
space, 5000 GB monthly bandwith, a free domain name, cgi-bin, and
unlimited sql databases. I Use ANHosting for Web420.com
and Talkaville.com.
Choosing a Web Hosting Company
If
you want to open a website one of the most important choices you have
to make is which host to choose. Paid hosting is much cheaper than it
was in the past, and I highly recommend it. If you are unsure about
paid hosting read the section about how to make money with your
website. Hosting is very important because if your site is down it will
destroy all your hard work, you will be taken off search engines, lose
your backlinks, visitors, etc.... I've had some hosts that were really
bad, and I realized it's very important to get a good host! The hosts I
DO NOT recommend are: Server Phase, M&A Hosting, or Dunnsearch.org.
I know from personal experience how much bad host can mess up
everything.
Advantages of Paid Web Hosts
Paid
hosting is better than free hostin because they give you much better
service, products, and guarantees. Most paid hosting sites guarantee
99% or higher website uptime, most free hosts do not. Another issue is
space... Free hosts don't give you as much hard drive space and
bandwidth. If your site has videos or audio that take up a lot of hard
drive space, then paid hosting would probably be better. If your site
gets popular and you exceed your bandwidth your site will be shutdown.
Paid hosting they usually come with a massive amout of bandwidth
compared to free hosts. ANHosting comes with enough bandwidth for your
site to get hundreds of thousands, if not millions of visitors, it is
5000 times more bandwidth than most free hosts with 1GB transfer.
Another advantage of paid hosts are cgi-bin directorys, and SQL
databases. These things allow you to build a much better website with
things like bulletin boards, chat rooms, guestbooks, polls, and other
interactive elements. Even if you don't have experience with CGI or SQL
you could install a webpage creator system that would allow you to
easily add these things to your site with a couple clicks. Paid hosts
usually come with cgi that they will install on your server if you just
ask them. They usually have things like email forms, forums, guesbooks,
chat rooms, polls, etc...
How to Make Money with Your Website
Once your site is up and running you can choose to place ads on your website from companies like Google Adsense or Yahoo APT.
By having advertisers you can usually cover the entire cost of hosting
your site, which is great! Web420.com has Google Adsense ads, which
sometimes make as much at $3 per click, but average around $1.20. The
amount you get paid per click depends on the content of your website,
and how much advertisers have bid for the keywords related to your
website. Web420.com is hosted with ANHosting, which costs $85 a year,
or around 23 cents a day. So you don't have to get very many clicks to
cover hosting costs, and make a little profit. The Web420.com Adsense
ads generate over $600 a year, and it's been going up every year.
Google Adsense - Earn revenue for placing ads or banners on your site. This is what I
use and recommend to other people. See my Adsense ads on the left. With
Adsense you can customize the colors and type of ads that are displayed.
Yahoo APT - Another ad network like Adsense. Make money by putting ads on your website.
Bad Web Hosts
M&A Hosting - Didn't respond to E-mails. Never updated my domain infomation with
the registar. Made it very difficult to transfer to another host.
Server Phase Hosting - Website was offline occasionally. They didn'y resond to emails. They
never updated my domain information. They made it very difficult to
transer to another host, and it took almost a month.
Dunnsearch.org Hosting - Terrible - Talkaville.com was offline for weeks! It took days to get
emails from the support, support refused to increase the upload limit
above 3 MB, they said it wouldn't be fair to others? .... They didn't
honor their website uptime guarantee. Here is an email correspondence
between me and the support for dunnsearch.org hosting company:
Hi,
The site talkaville.com is down. It hasn't been working for a couple days... Is it going to be back online soon?
Three days later:
Ok.
its back up. And I believe you owe me $2 for monthly payment. Please
send payment to ***********@gmail.com with paypal. Thank you
